Treasure Hunting

Today was day 1 of the Calori House Project. Amongst the treasures the previous owner left for me to find were 2 pairs of boxers, the worlds largest collection of wire hangers, a urine sample, and what seemed to be the remains of a prehistoric seagull…  More than once I had to think of the recent debate surrounding the forceful vaccination of kids in California, at least for today, I am glad I got my tetanus shot. Not sure what a Meth Lab looks like, but it can’t be too far from the kitchen we had to clean…Stay tuned!

And so it begins…

Today is May 4th. We are finally back at work on the house. The previous owner  vacated the premises, and its time to get to work.

First step on our battle-plan is deep cleaning the house. It is sure to get dirt and dusty again as we work on it, but it is nice to get started with a clean slate.

Tomorrow, some pictures of the property, as is.

May the fourth be with you.

It’s official!

I’d been keeping this a secret for a little while now, but as of yesterday, it’s official. Some months ago I came across a little property, tucked away in the Glendale Hills, that was originally built by Lloyd Wright in 1926. Behind a dusty old shrubbery was a small sign that read “For Sale by Owner”. The house was a disaster. It was not only dirty, it had junk lying all over the place, and hadn’t been properly maintained for over 30 years… Essentially, it felt like a hauntedhouse. The potential however, was tremendous. You could tell the house had been built by a veritable genius. Sadly, it was in a total state of disrepair. I went to work, made some phone calls, and pooled together a team of investors that believed in bringing this Lloyd Wright house back to its 1920’s glory. As of yesterday, escrow closed, ownership transferred over to the new owner, and its officially show time. The next 4-6 months are going to be exciting, to say the least. The house needs a lot of work, but we intend to make it shine like the Wrights intended it to shine. When we are done, we should have a huge Great Gatsby party to celebrate. What do you say, old sports?
